Scary habits you need to stop now!

Scary habits you need to stop now!

Using dirty makeup brushes

It’s always easy to put off cleaning your makeup brushes and sponges, but a dirty brush or sponge can really harm your skin. Besides accumulating old makeup, used brushes and sponges can carry dirt and dust, face oil, and whatever you may spray in your bathroom which can lead to breakouts! Sponges have the additional problem of mould and even bugs (gross!). Dirty beauty tools can cause skin irritations, acne, and sometimes serious infections. Set aside one day every week to clean your brushes and sponges and see your breakouts improve!

Over - cleansing

Just because you scrub your skin rigorously doesn’t mean you’re cleansing it effectively. While it may feel nice, it can disrupt your skin’s barrier function and cause your face to overproduce oil, making it just as bad as under-cleansing. Be wary of harsh scrubs that can damage the skin and instead use a daily cleanser formulated with Salicylic Acid like our Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash to unclog pores and remove excess oil.

Sleeping with your makeup on

We've all been there. You get home late, and the last thing you want to do is wash your face. So, is sleeping with your makeup on that bad? YES! Sleeping in your makeup can result in unnecessary exposure to the free radicals in the environment, which the makeup holds on to. Free radicals cause the breakdown of healthy collagen, which results in fine lines on the skin. Each night you sleep with your makeup on, pores become more clogged and attracts acne-causing bacteria to your pores. Our favourite night-time treatment to banish breakouts is Breakout Clearing Booster, it gets to work in 15 minutes to kill breakout causing bacteria without drying out the skin.
