Which should I use? Serum or Oil?

Which should I use? Serum or Oil?

Serum or oil?

Serums and face oils may appear identical at first glance, yet they provide different skin-care advantages. Serums give a concentrated amount of active ingredients to your skin and aid in their absorption. Serums allow these ingredients to reach the skin's surface, maintaining efficacy while also protecting your skin from the effects of everyday life.

Water-based serums absorb much faster into the skin, making it easier to apply makeup on top of them, which is ideal for morning use. It can be difficult to choose a serum if you have more than one skin concern. We have the solution to that dilemma in the form of our smart response serum — Dermalogica NZ.

Next-generation smart serum gives your skin exactly what it needs, when it needs it. Smart Response technology helps to prevent skin damage by triggering four smart actives that hydrate, brighten, soothe, and address the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in response to the skin's changing needs.

Hydrolyzed Beta Glucan oligosaccharides respond to dehydration cues. Hydrolysed Wheat Flour activates as needed to brighten the complexion. Japanese Cornelia Cherry is high in antioxidants and helps to soothe and minimise redness. Plant-based Mannose-6-Phosphate dramatically firms and smooths the skin.

 It also:

  • Helps skin to maintain optimal hydration levels
  • Brightens and helps reduce the appearance of dark spots
  • Helps to soothe and reduce the appearance of redness
  • Helps improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles

Face oils are extremely versatile and high in essential fatty acids and lipids, which help to seal in moisture and preserve the skin barrier while also healing the skin. All skin types (including oily) can benefit from facial oils, which should be applied as the last step before applying a moisturiser.

Keep in mind that you can utilise both products at the same time! If your serum contains oil and you have oily skin, it may be a little too much for you. They would, however, be an excellent addition to your skin care routine if you have dehydrated or dry skin. Just remember to apply your serum after cleansing and then go in with your face oil to further hydrate the skin.
